SECRETARYS REPORT TO THE WMCATUC AGM 5th DECEMBER 2009

The County Association has continued to fulfil its main role of providing a forum for local Trades Union Councils to meet and exchange ideas, information, details on campaigns and support for each other. The County Association also provides a voice within the Regional TUC and at National Conferences. Delegates have continued to play a full and active roll within the Trade Union movement in the West Midlands and at National level.

Conferences and Committees.

WMCATUC had three delegates attend the Trades Union Council’s Annual Conference. Delegates were present at the Midlands Regional TUC and on its Executive. Delegates have also attended the Women’s Advisory Committee, various other TUC organised events as well as many Trade Union backed protests and meetings. Reports were received and circulated when provided

Registration of Trades Union Councils with the TUC.

There are organisational and funding benefits from registration. All TUC’s are encouraged to register as soon as possible and Secretaries are advised to keep a copy of their registrations for future reference.  Only registered Trades Union Councils may affiliate to the WMCATUC. The deadline for national registration is 29th January 2010 this year.

Assessment of affiliated TUC involvement.

Requests for solidarity were received and drawn to the attention of trade’s union councils. The County web site proved to be very useful in this matter. I would encourage all TUC’s to send in details of meeting dates, reports, events, etc to go on the web site.

Thanks to the efforts of Jim Warner & other union members Dudley TUC is now active again and we wish them well for the future.

Summary

Dorothy Heath was our representative on the TUCJCC and Mary Simpson at the RTUC EC. On behalf of the County I would like to thank Dorothy and Mary for all their work over the last twelve months. I would also like to thank Nick and George Hickman for chairing the meetings so well and for all the delegates contributions in the last year.

The audited Statement of Accounts for 2009 will be presented at the AGM for approval. A separate Treasurers report will be presented to the AGM.
